Deciding on the reception location and details of your reception will probably be the biggest decision of all your wedding plans. Your reception is a big deal and requires a lot of looking into before you both make a final decision. It is usual that one third of a couple's wedding budget goes toward reception expenses. With this in mind, most couples are particular about how their money will be spent in regards to the reception. Though tradition has usually left reception expenses as the responsibility of the Bride's family, many couples today are sharing the expenses with the Groom's family. This will be a decision made by you, your fiancé and the parents. Keep in mind that a majority of reception site fees are based on an hourly rate (3-5 hours).
It is important to first figure out what your exact budget is and the tone of wedding you have in mind. Your guest list is also a major determining factor of location and setting of the reception. Don't let a limited budget restrict you from having a reception of your dreams. Scheduling a date to wed during an "off time" or low season of the year could be a cost efficient alternative. January, February, and July are considered to be less popular months to marry. Another alternative would be having your wedding on a Friday evening or on a Sunday. Whatever day and month you may choose, be sure to decide on and book a reception site as far in advance as possible. Booking a site more than a year before your wedding is perfectly fine. Certain "hot spots" or locations may be booked up to two years in advance.
There are many various places to choose from when deciding on a reception location.. Some of the most popular; hotels, banquet facilities, restaurants, country clubs, and community centers. If you want a more unique setting, you could choose to have your reception at a mansion, Gallery, art museum, yacht, historical site or a public park. The decision is yours and you will want to choose what is perfect for you both as well as finding a site that will leave a lasting impression on your guests.
